So, American did an interview on the possiblility of the new Alice game. You can read it here. Not sure what do I think about the whole virtual reality thing, but yeah, ok, we'll see...

Glad to see that this is going somewhere and hopefully EA will at last be convinced. But where in the interview did McGee mention the virtual reality thing and what is it? And what does VR stand for?

I just linked it in the previous post. The link is under the word "here". Just click it and you'll go right to the interview page. He mentioned it in the interview and VR stands for virtual reality. And what is this? Well, if you heard of Oculus Rift, you'll know what this is all about (and if not, just look it up on youtube).

Ehhhhhhhhhhh He's obsessed with that kind of stuff and I'm not sure I get why. In my opinion, the oculus and stuff like that is a gimmick and a trend. If EA actually lets him make it, I doubt they'd allow him to go in the whole virtual reality direction.
I sort of wish he'd get his mind off the whole free to play, virtual reality kick he's been on since after AMR. Good, quality, full console games is what he should be focused on making. However, he hasn't since Alice. I don't think he's ever wanted to go in that direction anyway...even though I feel like it'd benefit he and his company.

The weirdest thing is... he said that he knows and understands that his fans don't want anything like that, and still... he does that. He knows we're tired of the F2P model and yet... Ehh.

Ehh. this is why I say he really doesn't care about what his fans think. He just wants to do what he wants to do. IMO, the only time he cares really is when they have something negative to say. but instead of taking it as criticism (which it is) from some of the most important people when it comes to adding on to something they will potentially buy, he gets angry and denies any truth in what they have to say. He also goes to lengths to prove how they're wrong. that's not how you handle critisism. He should really take a long look at what others are saying, not reply to the negative critisism, but just look at it, absorb it, and make changes so the people who will be purchasing his stuff will be happy and WANT to purchase it. the thing is, though. There's people out there who will take any old piece of crap as long as it has the "american mcgee;s alice" label on it and will buy it anyway. And he knows that. it really sucks.

Also and besides, what does McGee find so special about this virtual reality thing anyways. And also, I really do hope that if McGee gets to make a third Alice game, they will do it outside of Origin because Origin is total CRAP and unfunctional. I wanna contact McGee about this and warn him about this (and hoping that he will listen), but where can I contact him directly and where he will actually answer and see the message?

Lucky you! How did you do to not get trouble from Origin? I've tried every single thing and workout EA has listed out when it comes to Origin, it still won't work. I bought The Sims 4 from them but I still can't play it or get it working via Origin and without Origin it won't work... Sadly I don't have twitter so my only bet is his Facebook. Hopefully he will see it and even better, perhaps respond.

i dunno.. does origin work on your machine and the problem is with the game, or origin doesn't start up so you can't play ANY game? i'm pretty sure he also has a contact form on his website, you could try that. it doesn't require logging in. It doesn't work on my machine. Well, I can start the program up and see my games, but I can't play the games and they're only playable via Origin. Sure, I got a Windows 8, but so what? Origin is said to work on Windows 8, The Sims 4 is for Windows 8. Which website of his were you particularly thinking of? Can you give a link, please?

a quick google search gave me an impression that sims 4 is just a very shitty game and that's not an origin's problem at all. wow, the number of reasons why sims 4 might not start up could fill one thick ancient tome. the problem could be in your pc specs, or it's a memory issue, or firewall blocking it, or an anti-virus software blocking it, or it's not run as admin. *sigh* i was thinking about this www.americanmcgee.com/contacting-me/ strange, i remember seeing contact form some years ago, maybe he removed it. it seems now you can only leave a comment to any blog post on the website. So the problem might be in the sims 4 itself? I also wonder, I had the sims medieval and it worked with Windows 7. But since I got Windows 8, it ain't working even though I'm running it as administrator. I tried to redeem it's code on Origin, because they had an updated version which would work on Windows 8. But it won't even download (it's done via Origin) and I still don't know what's wrong. To me, Origin seems just as shitty as sims 4. I think I remember seeing that there is no contact form on the "contact me" page of his. And if I post in one of his posts I'm not sure that he'll even read it. It also seems that he seldom visits his blog. So I guess our only choice is facebook.

OK, some nice things happened today - McGee has contacted me on Facebook about something I said on twitter. So definitely try either this or that if you want him to receive the message. PS. I have zero experience with Windows 8, so I can't really say why things may go wrong with it That sounds like good news. Next time I'll log into Facebook I'll be sure to send him the message I was talking about. ^^ And it's ok. Plus, Windows 8 can seem like a mystery of its own.

In my opinion, the oculus and stuff like that is a gimmick and a trend. If EA actually lets him make it, I doubt they'd allow him to go in the whole virtual reality direction. not necessarily just a trend. the technology is still very young and expensive, and still can't find it's way into mass market. it's totally cool if someone one day makes a game utilizing this kind of tech, therefore making companies produce more VR gadgets and forcing gamers to upgrade. but whoever will be the first, second and even third to do this, they probably won't make their creation profitable unlike all the guys after them. because it will take time for all of us to upgrade, etc etc. EA aren't idiots, they won't willingly let anyone build a fun plane that won't fly, so to speak. Oculus Rift might be an elaborate gimmick, fueling the VR trend, luring people to pay hundreds of dollars in the device itself and the development of video games and many other experiences... but I'm not so sure. What do you think of the Google Cardboard thing? The thing is freaking cheap. Yep, I know you can't possibly build a AAA game in that thing. I'm not even sure (yet) you can profit via video game development for the Cardboard viewer, but it sure is making more people aware that it's possible and almost accessible to anyone. I'd say it's a matter of time. Playstation are also doing their homework in terms of VR, and they'll have their Morpheus thing working for their PS4 consoles which, as far as I know, Oculus won't do ever (except maybe with the Xbox, but that's another story). I have the feeling this whole VR thing will be the sister of the Xbox's Kinect or the Playstation's Move. It'll be a thing you like or not, that you'll use or not on your games (as a consumer and developer), and that only few games will be able to leverage well enough to profit from them (like Harmonix with Dance Central, or Ubisoft with Just Dance)... but won't reach as many people as a "normal", controller based, screen projected game does. I'm as excited as American about VR. I've been researching, learning, making, testing, and inspiring myself on the VR thing (with Google Cardboard and Oculus Rift), but if one is to close a deal with a company whose sole existence is based on economic profit, also owning the rights to your creation and essentially whatever variation you could try to come up with, you're going to have to make a video game with methodologies and tools that have been proven to work and result in things many people will be able to use and potentially buy... which means that, if there's ever to be an Alice 3, American's going to have to let go of some revolutionary ideas - or at least we should try to convince him to.

That is interesting to both read and know about! I do hope American McGee will make the Alice 3 game work outside of Origin because that shit is completely unfunctional for many users, including me myself. But I almost recently sent him a message on Facebook to both warn and beg of him to make the game work beside of Origin, because the truth is, Origin ain't working for many users out there. I dunno what to think about the virtual reality thing though, I know so little about it.

I dunno what to think about the virtual reality thing though, I know so little about it. I'm pretty sure Electronic Arts could set it as a condition to distribute Alice 3. Hell, they could even just state in their contract: [..] "EA" will distribute "The Game" through any means deemed effective, including but not limited to: retail stores, web stores, digital downloads, tele-transportation, telekinesis or spontaneous appearance. [..]
[..] "Spicy Horse" is obligated to facilitate "EA's" distribution labors in the full extent of it's capabilities, through hardware and/or software creations and/or supplements to "The Game" during and after it's stipulated release cycle [..] ... and it's either that, or no Alice. Hell, they could probably do it without Spicy Horse's intervention; as far as I've seen (technically speaking), Origin packs games as if it were a sort of digital box with a sort of DRM that doesn't need much (or any) integration with the game. So they could just say "f*ck you, we'll sell it through Origin whether you like it or not". All we can do is... just not use Origin.
