And I was dissapointed...
Firstly, it was really hard for me to understand which files should I download and was kind of put off when I saw how much the files actually weigh. For people with slower internet connections downloading everything is going to be a hell. The biggest file there is, weighs 16GB. Luckily I have a rather fast connection so that wasn't a problem.
After downloading I opened "Leviathan" first and saw that this is the short done in anime-style. That was something that really bugged me, but I thought "alright, let's give it a try". It was really boring for me to watch honestly. At first I felt like Alice's voice was different, but then I wasn't sure anymore. Also, the person who voiced Jules was a bit hard do understand for me language-wise (felt like he wasn't really speaking clearly and mumbling a bit). The animation seemed stiff in some parts and that's another thing that bugged me here. However, I managed it to the end somehow.
The next thing I went for was "Opera". I already knew this is going to be a stop-motion, so I was thrilled so see it. It felt like the story here was more developed than the previous short. The action was rather quick and that's good. The short ended really quickly on a second note... and that was no good. I actually might want to rewatch this film, though.
Now onto the artbook... I like the art A LOT. As always, this is the thing that I simply love about Alice. The creativity and freedom of expression represented here is just stunning.
So, in summary... Different strokes for different folks. I didn't like the anime style, but stop motion is what caught me.
I think that both shorts lacked characters such as Cheshire Cat or even Caterpillar. I'm sorry, but I really thought I'm going to see them here! On a second thought, they probably shouldn't be inside a famous person's mind.
It felt like those shorts were really rushed. "Leviathan" is about 10 mins long, in which 3 mins are credits. "Opera" is about 8 mins long, in which 2 mins are credits.
I probably could've said "this is not what I paid for", but... I didn't, so... But I'm happy that those shorts exist - after all, any new Alice content is good!
And just a quick note... please bare with me, this is all written rather messy, but I just wanted to post about my first feelings right after seeing the new content.
