For me, it was kind of by accident. I was starting making Let's Plays on YouTube, and when I wanted to move on to another game, I had no idea what to record. Then, one of my subscribers popped up with an idea of this American McGee's Alice. I was like "whaaa". Checked that game info online, got interested, and also a bit scared (I was 13 or 14 by then maybe?). Told one of my friends about it, she said that yeah, she remember that game. And so we downloaded it (yesh, illegal stuff). We both played it, then I did the Let's Play series (like, twice, but I deleted them, never really finished them). I didn't finish the game back then due to the inability to go past the last chess-level area. Some time later when I found out about Madness Returns, I played that, and then decided that it'd be awesome to also finish the first game, so I finally bought it off of Ebay. I remember being REALLY Alice-obsessed that time.
Still, I din't finish the first game... yet.
How about you?

I found out about it through my mom lol. I don't remember how old I was but I was really young and my mom would be playing it sometimes on the home pc and I wanted to watch but my mom didn't allow me because it was an 'ugly' game, she said. It's kinda weird because my mom would be the last person you'd expect to play this game Anyways a few years ago I remembered and got curious of playing it myself so I bought a second-hand copy somewhere off the internet.

My story about how I actually found out about this game is a little bit funny and it's pretty unbelievable. But the short story is that I found out about AMA thanks to a Mario-game via Youtube. I know, it's pretty funny and hilarious. It was thanks to Luigi's Mansion that I found out about AMA.
I was on Youtube searching for soundtracks and such about the Luigi's Mansion game, and then there was these video suggestions, and one of them was the soundtrack to AMA. I listened to the soundtrack, got in love with the music and got so curious about this dark Alice and the next thing I knew, I ended up in a some sort of let's-play video for AMA. I got more and more hooked on it and then I searched for information and all about the game and I got soooo hooked and all into the game. And then I also found out about AMR was gonna be released and all in the future. And then, before I bought and played through the second one I wanted to follow the story in the first one so I could tag along with AMAlice's story. So I watched through a series of some sort of Let's play videos and I LOVED the story.
Then next I got AMR and loved it as well, but it all didn't feel like it was enough. The first game felt also special to me (believe it or not, but the first game and its feeling sort of reminded me about Zelda-Ocarina of Time for the N64, since that game has its darkness, depth and some hidden things and some dark and scary stuff too), it's story, atmosphere, eerie and mysterious feeling and ambience etc etc. I wanted the first game as well, but since stupid EA did not sell the game anymore I was left with no other choice but to download it. And here I am, I can't stop playing either AMA or AMR plus that now and since a few years ago. AMAlice herself has become my ultimate idol etc.

[...]I listened to the soundtrack, got in love with the music and got so curious about this dark Alice and the next thing I knew, I ended up in a some sort of let's-play video for AMA.[...] IKR!!? Music's so freaking nice. It's kind of sad that it's not in any streaming service I've used (Spotify, Google Music, Zune defunct and renamed to Xbox Music and defunct again and renamed Groove) except for YouTube. EDIT: actually, I just searched again and it is available on Google Play Music.. ooops[...]I wanted the first game as well, but since stupid EA did not sell the game anymore I was left with no other choice but to download it.[...] Funny story. So I was attending uni at the time (this is like 5 years ago), and I brought my new laptop. A friend of mine says "oh that looks nice, can you play games on it?" and I'm like "obviously probably almost certainly not" (it was just a regular laptop, no dedicated graphics card nor a super-duper-new processor); we ended up deciding to test it with a game, and it just so happened he had a copy of AMR in his pendrive (pirated at the time)... and that's how I started with a huuuuge obsession, I played until I figured it was super uncomfortable to play with mouse and keyboard (yep, controllers ftw). So seeing it'd be much more cool to play on the living room, with the sound system hooked up and a comfy controller, I bought AMR as a download to my Xbox. It's then that I realized it came bundled with AMA, in the same game. I'm not sure if it's on the disc version, though. If you have an Xbox that could be an option.

Yeah, the music's soooo nice and everything. I love the music so much. It's mysterious, ambient, eerie, dark and atmospheric and everything! XD I know that youtube has lots of soundtracks for both the first and the second game. Yup. There's nothing for the AMA music on Google Music, though. Meh. That's both cool and funny! Have you got both the games? Have you finished them and what did you think of them? ^_^ I've finished AMR (all costumes and memories and everything), and I think I left AMA halfway through because... well, the Xbox needed servicing and then responsibilities took precedence, and then... just life happened ^.^' -- I might give it a try again sometime though. I loved the way the story is told and how it all comes together in the end, and of course the "double" story it tells. The world switching through Alice's "blackouts" to Wonderland in AMR are pretty interesting. The voice acting in both Alice's is pretty sweet, but perhaps I like more AMR's performances because of the sound quality. The graphics are pretty nice in AMR, and in AMA it's quite interesting for me to think about how they coped with the limitations and technologies of the time to still create an engaging game.

Trust me, AMA is totally worth playing through, the game and its story etc gets better and better. Personally I sort of like AMA better than AMR. AMA has a special and mysterious atmosphere and its ambience and everything is also dark, eerie, mysterious and everything Especially the music. ^_^ Even though I love AMR almost as much too. I also like the storytelling (even though it perhaps could have been done better) and the cinematics in AMR, I also love going totally snicker-snack with the Vorpal Blade in AMR. I also love the Hobby Horse, Tea Pot Cannon and the Pepper Grinder and also much else. I personally love both the games's voice-acting.
